Celebrating the holiest of unions, perfectly coinciding with the holy season, Zico Barnett officially took Anya McLaren off the market, as the two said ‘I do’ last Easter Sunday in a beautiful wedding ceremony on the verdant lawns of the Trident Castle in Portland.

Barnett, a Toronto-based manager of digital services at Desjardins, and McLaren, a paediatric respirologist specialising in sleep medicine who is also resident in Canada, culminated 18 months of courtship that began with a dinner date at the Asian-fusion restaurant Origin, and which was engineered by their mutual friends.

More than a year later, the pair returned to home soil to tie the knot.

Stunning in a Ferré Sposa mermaid gown and heeled in Jimmy Choo, Anya exited the Trident Castle on the arm of her father Captain Louis McLaren, retired airline pilot, gingerly descending the flight of steps, and walking up a white petal-strewn aisle to meet her dapper RW & Co-suited groom Zico, to the strains of violinist Paulette Bellamy and keyboardist Alex Martin Blanken.

Father Delroy Farr of the Shiloh Apostolic Church in Port Antonio acted as the ceremony’s officiating minister.

Doubling as the late-afternoon ceremony’s court jester, Father Farr infused light humour and weaved anecdotal stories into his role, eliciting frequent peals of laughter from the bridal party, and guests who were seated on the manicured lawns of the iconic Portie property.

Shauntae Donegan, the groom’s cousin delivered the ceremony’s first reading taken from 1 Corinthians 13, while the groom’s cousin Latoya Barnett offered the second reading from Genesis 2: 21-25.

The confident bride and her equally assured groom recited their vows with easy conviction, as they stared expectantly into each other’s eyes, ahead of sliding their rings on to each other’s fingers, signalling the expressed oath of commitment to a solid future together.

The newlyweds repaired with their guests to the wedding reception, styled by Tai Flora Luxe and catered by Trident, which followed in the Trident Castle’s courtyard.

Post-event, the Barnetts honeymooned at The Cliff Hotel on the West End, Negril, and will enjoy a second honeymoon later this year in Spain.
