Audi lauds ATL’s superb work

GERMAN luxury brand Audi is lauding Jamaican dealership ATL Automotive for its exceptional work in the Caribbean.

The occasion was the launch of the 2018 Audi Q5 held at the Hotel Casa Reyna in Puebla, Mexico, recently.

The tribute came from Francisco Torres, managing director of Audi Regional Office, who lauded the Stewart family-owned enterprise.

“ATL is a trustworthy partner and we’re happy to have a relationship with them. They are a well-known business enterprise in the region and we’re very honoured to have them representing the brand there. They have proven to be a very active dealer ... they are representing the brand with passion; the’ve been organising the events (to give exposure to the brand), so we really appreciate doing business with them,” Torres told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.


One of the events the managing director was referring to was the staging of ATL Automotive’s three-day show dubbed REVOLUTION, held at the company’s massive Oxford Road facility in Kingston last month. In addition to generating sales for brands under its portfolio, the occasion saw the unveiling of the first super-car in Jamaica: the Audi R8 Spyder.

Started by hotel magnate Gordon “Butch” Stewart in 1997, ATL Automotive began with the Honda brand. Under current CEO Adam Stewart, son of “Butch” Stewart, the dealership has expanded to represent BMW, MINI, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Audi. The latter has been under ATL’s portfolio since September 2010.

Torres said ATL Automotive is contributing significantly to Audi’s viability in the Caribbean.

“In the Caribbean, they have a very significant share, so they are contributing very substantially to our numbers... I would say that they are one of three of our most important markets in the Caribbean and we are again very confident in the numbers we have to reach in the region,” said Torres.

Audi had encouraging news at the beginning of 2017. It increased its global sales to around 1,871,350 automobiles in 2016, 3.8 per cent more than in the previous record-breaking year 2015. During the ongoing, wide-ranging renewal of the model range, sales increased in all core regions: in Europe (+7.6 per cent); in North America (+5.3 per cent), with further growth in the plateaued US market (+4 per cent); and in Asia-Pacific (+0.5 per cent). In all five of its largest individual markets, the four rings sold more automobiles than ever before. Worldwide, demand increased for the seventh year in a row since 2009. Compared with 949,729 customers in 2009, the company almost doubled its market success over this period.

“We are proud of the performance of Audi, especially in western Europe and also in North America. Also in China, 2016 was a very successful year for Audi. So altogether, it was a very good year for us worldwide,” said the managing director.

Torres said he had high expectations for the new Audi Q5.

“In the region, our most important is the Q5. The SUV takes a big share of our sales... The Q5 is the leader, then there’s the Q3 and the Q7. In the future, we’re looking forward to have the Q2 making a substantial contribution to our sales in the region,” he said.

“The Q5 is more exciting and more agile than its predecessor. It’s dynamic, it’s lighter, and reacts faster to your command. So it’s a new product... people will be excited after driving it.”

And your expectations of the Q5 in Jamaica?

“Very high. Jamaica is a market that enjoys new cars; they love driving the latest and nicest cars. Jamaica has a taste for SUVs so we’re expecting really good numbers,” Torres added.
